you get in a new frag, or when you do water changes?

also i would like to know if they will fight if they get close to each other? or does it depend on the kind of sps?

New frags, yes. I usually leave them out for a few minutes before placing them in the tank.

Water changes, no. (but it is ok if they do)

Yes, they will fight if they are too close.

No, it usually does not depend on which kind. Normally what kind determines who will be the agressor. because some species are more aggressive than others.

sps corals are regularly exposed to air at low tide in the wild in some areas. Often for several hours.
I recall a recent article on reefkeeping.com that discusses shipping sps 'dry'.

some sps have sweeper tentacles and will actually digest neigboring sps flesh. Others just overgrow and smother neighbors or shade them out.

I also saw something about shipping SPS with a wet papertowel wrapped around it....weird!

Some of my SPS hit air when I do a water change and they are all doing great

Yes, my SPS get exposed to air when I'm setting new frags, obtain new frags, do water changes, etc. It won't hurt them at all. They are often exposed during low tides for hours at a time. Most of the time, when things like Acropora and Montipora get close, nothing happens. They usually need to touch. But things like a Hydnophora is able to send out rather long sweeper tentacles and kill nearby corals.

okay thanks guys! but yeh.. ive seen a lot of tanks with sps dominated... like that one thread that they had here on this forum, and they seem pretty close together and ive never see them like dead or fighting or anything...
