Well I've tried everything and thought I might as well give Reefcentral a try.

A friend of the of family's golden retriever just passed on and she wants to get a new golden retriever puppy. The problem is she doesnt have a computer or know how to use one so shes stuck with only searching the classifieds. She lives in Michigan but is willing to make the trip to Ohio to find a puppy. She wants to spend around 300.

I was wondering if any of your guys or girls are breeders or know of any. Please keep on open ear out for me. Thank you.
Mike

I feel for your friend.... My wife and I have a Golden who just turned 2 and I cannot even think about a day without him. Unfortunately, nowadays you will not find a well bred golden for less then $800-$1000. You may find backyard breeders or oops pups for $300-$500 but you will not be getting proper clearances on eyes, hips, elbows, heart, etc... that are very important in finding a good well bred golden pup. Ultimately I fear for those who buy the backyard pups end of spending what they thought they saved when their dog ends up having hip displasia, heart problems or seizures. Terrible I know but it is better to spend more up front for a good bred dog with all clearances to avoid those issues down the road.

We got our pup after months of research from a very good breeder in west farmington. www.goldnpoint.com is the website. Many champion dogs. Our handsome boy is Gold'N'Points American Solider aka Brody and can be seen on K-9 data.com for his blood lines. His father was ranked No. 1 Golden in the USA last year.

Great breeder all clearances but you pay for what you get. He is the best dog I have ever owned. Feel free to call Vonnie Peterson from Gold'N'Point to inquire further. We had to get on a waiting list to get one from her but well worth the couple of months wait.

Hope that helps some.

Actually our pup is the front picture on the website for GoldNPoint... just an FYI to gauge the pups looks...

There are soo many dogs that need a good home. Even some purebreds. Most breeds have a 'rescue' organization.
I'm going to make a plug here for greyhounds. They make awesome pets, as long as you can accept they need to be on a leash or in a fenced yard. no exceptions.

i recommend GRIN (Golden Retrievers In Need) this time of year they often have puppies in their rescue as well as adults. I also second petfinder.com I got our dog from a local rescue, and it's true....rescues make the best pets.

Don't be a breed snob lots of quality dog out there from reputable sources for way less than a "champion blood line" breeder. If all you want is a good house pet look else where. I got my full breed wiemer from the pound and have never thought twice about it. He was dropped off there for being a weimer pup by people that just didn't understand the responsibility involved in owning a dog, much less a high energy puppy like a weimaraner. Bottom line is yes you can pay top dollar for a well bred champion or get a great house pet and save a life from the pound or a rescue agency, there are just too many animals out there being put to sleep to be a bred snob so unless you are going to show the dog and have to have the breed line certification look elsewhere and save a life you can get a very healthy well behaved good looking dog without paying a fortune.

Dude chill the he'll out. I just said breeder because that's what I'm used to hearing about getting dogs. I don't get dogs for a living for people. Don't call me a snob punk. I already got a respectful response from someone else so thanks anyway.

The best dog I ever had was a rescued Golden Retriever. We breed Papillons and still point people to rescues when ever we can.

Well first of all, Breed Snob? really? I have had a golden retriever since i was a kid and love the breed. I guess i am a snob then, and you are an idiot. On another note you can find great breeders in the $500 range who guarantee their pups like myself. Great bloodline, eyes, hips, and etc checked. Unfortunately right now we dont have any available.
I also want to point out that there is definitaly no problem with adopting a dog, But to call someone a breed snob shows alot about there own character.

My apologies to all. I did not intend to upset anyone. Nor was that a knock on any one breed or person. I must have enjoyed cinco de mayo too much and thus did not express myself very clearly. My only point was that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a good dog. There a lots of other sources to get a great dog of any breed. My apologies again, I used to work at a shelter and had to put the animals down that we could not place so I guess it is a little more personal for me. I'm sorry to all no offense was intended to anybody or breed.

guys take a chill pill we are all supposed to be friends here there so much arguing going on about stupid things.
