Dogface puffer tankmates wanted.

Hi, I have a 125 gallon tank with a wet/dry, ASM G3 skimmer and about 90 lbs. of seeded base rock and 1 inch live sand bed. I have a 3 1/2 inch Dogface Puffer as the only fish in the tank and he is doing well.

I would like to add some colorful, interesting and compatible tankmates for my dogface. I am a little confused because some websites describe the dogface as aggressive and other sites describe it as mellow. So I am not sure what type of fish to choose.

I have been doing some reading and found out that Huma Triggers are not recommended. But, I would like to have a Trigger, how about a Niger, Bluejaw or Pinktail? I read that they are less aggressive. Would one of those work?

Other fish that I like are Harlequin Tusks, Tomato Clowns, Lunar/Bannana wrasses, Flame angels, Flame Hawks.

I would appreciate some suggestions. Thanks.

Triggers can be a chance with slower species, but all of the fish you have listed are possible good canidates.

I'd also like to recommend looking at a Navarchus Angelfish and/or Raccoon Butterfly.

Thanks Ed,
I looked up some info on the Raccoon Butterfly and it sounds like a hardy fish with a good temperment. I will read up more.

The Angel you suggested is really nice, but how difficult are they to care for? Are they hardy? I will have to do more research.

I have clown, niger, and picasso triggers. they are all in tanks with arothron puffers and i hav never had any problems. Also I have had a raccoon butteryfly with big wrasses, puffers, lions, triggers, and angels with no problems. they stand upfor themselves if theyre decent size.

I have a lunare wrasse and a blue-jaw trigger in with my dogface puffer, along with a purple tang, imperator angel, and a volitans. This is in a 240.

Thanks for the responses. They sound tougher than I was lead to believe from some websites.

I will most likely try one of the more mellow triggers as my last addition to the tank then.

Maybe then the puffer, tomato clown, raccoon butterfly and a bluejaw trigger?

I think my tank would be fully stocked with this lineup.
