doggone it!

ostrow

It's Dr. Goodluck Himself
I had the flush valve on my ro/di open for days and now my kalk tub is dry. Gotta fill it back up for topoff water. Doggone it!

Now I have one very clean membrane I guess.

dont mean to hijack here.... but (mind the Newbie-ness here...) what is Kalk for Ostrow???? Do i need it in my 20 Long softy tank??

Ditch the snakeoil and go with kalk.

And make sure when you mess with the valves on your ro that you restore to their full upright and locked position.

Whoops is right.

slang for purple up :) we only have 20Gal where Joel here has MANY MANY more, but i agree: use kalk and stop the purple up. although as far as valves and all that i cant tell you...all i do is hook up the RO unit to the sink1-2X/Week for 15 gallons....

I swear Mike, I thought about your photo of that Kent (snakeoil BTW :)) bottle after your masterflex got through with it.

I wonder, if I hadn't noticed, if mine would have scrunched my Rubbermaid Brute can.

So, it's worse than all this. Midmorning yesterday Mary calls me at work. The power went out for about 20sec (no clue why) and her computer shut off (no idea why ... battery backup failure?)

Anyway, while she's worried about her computer and work guess what I'm worried about!

She goes to look at the tank and reports a "snowstorm" ... huh? Says "this definitely is not sand". Precipitation? Can't be! Night before I was at 410 and 8.1 so can't be.

I get home 7hrs later, and tank looks fine, water level is higher. Higher? Huh? Still no idea why? Maybe when the pump kicked back on it blew stuff out of the pipes. Mary says what she saw was not that.

Look around, see no kalk dripping out of the tubes. Tubes tight in the masterflex. Hmmm.. Open the tub and see it dry. It must have been pumping kalk powder direct for a while. I didn' thave the heart to check pH and don't want to know. We'll see how the corals look tonight but all was well last night.

Man.

how many times do I have to see that and say purple up is not snake oil. It does infact raise Cal, and it does infact promote coraline growth. :D

Glad you have success with it. If you ever get a list of ingredients and proportions let us know! Until then, I don't put it in my tank.

Joel,

I accidentally over dosed calc a few months ago, my tank was so white I couldn't see in. My PH was over 9, I thought I was doomed but by the time I woke up the tank was clear and the ph was 8.2. No casualties.

Good luck!

you remember the crap that i went through when my GFaccidentally put the wrong water in. Well no casualties, except for 2 dusters, and my tank is much smaller than yours. Let me knwo is you need any man power, i will be in oak park for the next 10 nights....called in the car the last time this year :)

Oak park has that evil no parking over night rule, but you can call a guest car in for a stretch of time a few times a year. SO we are going to do that for the next ten days. Its nice to not have to drive in from the city everynight. And this way i can take care of my tank before i leave for the holidays.

Glad everything is allright!
