Dollar Per Gallon sale is back

FYI, the dollar per gallon sale is back at a local big box store. I have been waiting for this sale as I need a cheap 29 gallon tank to automate my water changes.

The sale is for 10, 20 high, 20 long, 29, 40 breeder, and 55 gallon tanks. Also it is a little bit more than they say, they have is a wierd tax calculation. I still walked away with a 40 gallon breeder last time for around $55, not too shabby.

Starts next week.

Happy New Year!

they told me it was an instant rebate. so you are taxed on the regular price and then the rebate is applied. so if a 55g was $100 then with 10% tax it would be $110. Next they would credit you the difference in 100 and 55 back. so 100+100x0.10-(100-55)=$65. i made up the $100 regular price to keep the math simple.

Yeah, there is something in there that doesn't add up. How can they not return the taxes paid?

But when compared to paying normal price for a new tank, the final price is still hard to beat.

It's Petco....at least thats the only store I know of that runs a $1 a gal. sale. Still get a descent deal, but I still think it's a rip off too on the tax. If you are payin' $55 for a 55 gal. tank, you should only pay tax on $55, not tax on $100 or whatever the regular price.

Maybe I'm just lookin' at it wrong, but when our local stores like AC and Ebay have their holiday sales, if they sale you somethin' on a sales price, they charge the tax for what you pay and not tax on the original cost right? Same as any other store. On black friday when you get the tvs and computers discounted....say you get a computer thats regular priced at $500 and you only pay $300, you pay tax on $300 and not $500 right?

I know we are only talkin' a few dollars difference....tax on $100 vs tax on $55.....but still seems odd.

just guessing, but i would say it has more to do with lazyness than malace. the store does not get to keep the tax so they are not benifiting. Good chance it is easier to program a rebate into their system than a strait sale for some reason. they also have little reason to change at the rate the tanks fly off the shelf. I am yet to find the 40 breeder in stock

I think Old Uncle Sam may take a different attitude at over charging Taxes if they are not paid to the Govt Officials. May not go over to well with them IMO
