Done with the Drama

Title says it all, the club needs to find a president. I've been on this board for three years and every year it's the same bs. I'm tired of fighting with people about everything they can think of. Every year it's always the same, someone has an idea, instead of running it by the board (since it use to be the board the ran the club) and seeing what they thought about it and how it may effect the club positively or negitatively, they have to throw a huge t-i-t-t-y fit until they get what they want. I'm sick of it, learn some patience. Travis seems to have it all worked out so he's my vote for President, Billy for VP, and Craig for Tresurer. Good luck and have a good year.

Jason,

I really don't think anyone has thrown a fit. Travis and Billy both have said this could be run on the side if the club didn't want to sponsor this. You are right this is the boards decision on whether the club sponsors it. I guess I was just trying to give positive reasons why to do it in the club. As it sits you, Brad and Jeremy are the BOD and we are the membership. It sounds like you and Brad are against it. I haven't heard from Jeremy on the issue but that really doesn't matter since it is 2-1 already.

So I guess it needs to happen on the side. No big deal, those of us who want to do it on the side can just test it out on the side. If it works maybe the BOD will change their minds next time around.

I don't see any reason to quit over it. Why would it upset you so much? I guess I haven't seen past years, but I didn't read anything that was anyone throwing a fit.

You've done a good job and I would like to ask you to re-consider this decision.

I think my wife and 99% of the membership reading this had a heart attack or at least got cold chills. I don't think anyone, including myself wants to see you quit. If for no other reason than the fear of me as a president... :p

This was not my intention in my questions and by wanting to start a new program. I am just excited as many others are about this idea and some of the other ideas that have come from a few threads recently.

I understand your leariness of the coral swap program and we decided to run it seperate. No biggie there we and other members were already doing it on a small scale anyway.

I have seen you post that you are moving so I offered to get some November meetings organized. Just trying to help decrease your and the BOD's burden. I was on the BOD, I know how it can suck some times.

My other thread was about ideas for local QC meeting ideas. Out of that came one of my favorite meeting ideas that I had forgotten. Group meetings at members homes with a discussion about that members tank. A bit more indepth tank tour of sorts. The last one I remember was held at Bob's house a couple years ago.

Sorry again if it felt like I over stepped my boundries. It was not my intention, I just saw you get a presidency dumped into your lap this year and now you are moving which I know is never easy and wanted to help as I believe any member should.

I appreciate everything you have done, it is a hard job. Thank You!

The one observation I would like to point out is that this is a club of members. The members should be able to make a majority decision on issues. I thought the BOD was to serve the cub, run the business side of the club & to help organize all events. I kinda feel like the bod had a "my way or no way" approach to any decision, regardless of members opinions.

I think 2008 can be one of the best years this club has ever had. We have lots of new & enthusiastic ideas. Many new potential members eager to participate. I think most of the members of the club would like you to lead us during this exciting time!

It's not really a my way or no way approach, it's a need to sit down and think about the long term effects. If we ran with every idea someone had this club would be complete anarchy. I'm sorry that my personal opinion was not to spend the members money buying and trading frags, it would be much better spent buying raffle items, paying for event locations/supplies, speakers, diy projects, pizza parties, tank tour door prizes....and the list goes on. I don't mind donating a frag or two to the club I just think that starting a wide spread frag exchange is a ticking time bomb. It sounds like a glorified cooler swap.....someone always catches the short end of the stick. But thats just my opinion and I don't have to partake in the program

Jason, I think you should give it another shot as well. I think we could have a good year but I think the key is to keep things simple and not overthink things that usually causes all of this drama, which leads me to my opinion on this whole coral swap thing.

I haven't posted anything about this coral swap thing because, personally I think it's kind of a silly idea. I mean I have been giving coral away to new members since I have started collecting coral, I also assumed that's what others did. Why should we have to make a huge deal out of it? Why make the club foot the bill for new coral for our tanks. I think the principle of the idea is great but why make it harder than it needs to be? Our club is about promoting propagation right? Why does it matter where the coral came from or if you give it away or sell it? I say if you guys want to be all technical about it go right ahead, but IMO I like to keep things like this simple. If there is a coral you really want and can't afford and want buy a colony of it, why not have some people go in on it or arrange a group buy.

Basically, if Jason isn't going to run for president again, I don't want to run either. It's nothing personal against anyone else, it's just a matter of traveling and time. I feel Jason and I communicate well and being we are both from the same area it makes it easy to get together and discuss certain topics.

So Jason, buddy, I'll leave it at that, just remember just because your president of the club doesn't mean you necessarily have to be part of the arguing and drama. I see it as a waste of time and it makes us look bad so I tend to stay out of it, next thing you know it's over and done and I didn't have to say a word, works for me....

After reading all the posts I have to say I don't blame you Jason, however I hope you will continue as President.

My opinion: I cannot see how this whole frag propagation thing is going to bring anything but grief. Far too complicated and too many opportunites for disgruntled members. Fairness will only come with equality and their is no way you are going to be able to please the whole group of members no matter what you do. I cannot imagine choosing a selection to please everyone (as in the whole club.) Growing them out in various tanks (no small feat) then again the dealing with who gets what when it will be limited. Too many variables that will lead to unhappy people and then the ***t really will hit the fan. From what I've seen, it takes so little to set off a few of the members of this club.

Now I do see this as a great opportunity for a few members that are dedicated to the idea and feel that they would have fair shares in the venture. I can see it working on a smaller scale with people that have similar likes, ideas and goals and without involving club money.

As Waverly stated, I think that sharing with new members is a great thing and I am perfectly happy to do that voluntarily and I'm sure others do too. I'm not trying to offend anyone here but there are so many basics that this club could be working on, gathering membership and cohesiveness.

Sorry to hear about the crap you have to put up with. I'm sure it's a thankless job and I'm not sure how you do it.

I ask that you reconsider your position and remain as president of the club. If you do, I would like to throw my hat into the ring and go for VP to help you out. I have broad shoulders. :)

Re: Done with the Drama

I really agree with Craig's point earlier, this is a club of members. If the majority of the membership is interested in this idea we should give it a fair shake. Instead some of you guys have done nothing buy condemn the idea since it was put in front of everyone.

I think it is probably best to drop the idea, there is no sense in losing members over an idea that was meant to try to bring us together and increase membership.

Those that are intersted in working out some sort of plan to share our corals both in the interest of insuring our tanks against complete loss as well as taking the opportunity to buy some higher dollar colonies and split them up, pleaes pm me.

For whoever posted the f you comment to Jason, grow up. Last I knew there wasn't anyone under the age of 10 in here. Hopefully we can get your IP address blocked to hold down on the childishness.

Jason, on your decison to quit, I hate to see it. You have done a lot for the club. However, I really do wish that you could be more objective of ideas and consider them before making a decision on their validity.

Billy

Not sure who did this, but I have requested that their IP address be blocked and this account as well as the account name they would normally use be moved on.

I did the same...

Like i mentioned earlier, if you want to buy some higher dollar corals and split them up I'm all for it, i just don't see why we have to have it be so complicated, someone buy the coral and bring it to the meeting to distribute it. I just did a group buy from two part, it was simple, i didn't ask the BOD if i could do it, i just took it upon myself to do it. If you guys really want to do this, DO IT! I guess I don't really understand what you are asking from the club.

I want some higher end corals start a thread on it, let's order some stuff. It doesn't have to be this hard nor does it need to be argued about.

I don't think majority voting would work well. Why do you think we have an electoral college? ;)

I think our BOD has done a good job this year. I would like to re-elect the current BOD if they are running.

Like wavers said, it's best not to get involved in internet bickering if you can avoid it. Look what it did to one of us. Caused him to lose his cool and post a non-productive post which will probably get his main account banned unless he was smart enough to post with a completely different IP. Best to stick to the issues and filter out all the crap.
