Donovan's Nitrate Destroyer

How long did it take to get the bacteria colonized enough to process the nitrate? Also, how much flow do you want entering the tower ?

Bought 4" pvc tubes, flanges for base, top threaded cap, quick connect 3/8 fittings, Waiting on large ceramic bio rings and medium bio rings, I will post pictures of the progress..

Good luck with your artwork. Can't wait to see the reactor especially the performance.

Epic waste of time. A waterfall ats will remove phosphate as well as nitrate, it's natural, you don't have to dose anything, and costs practically nothing to build if you incorporate it into your drain line.

Don't you light your ATS? How many watts do you use for lighting?

I have ATS which is large I have already shared my build in DIY section and my phosphates are low but nitrates are still in 20's due to heavy on live stock side. I harvest GHA every 2 weeks but still having high nitrates....

I had ATS before so I know how it works. Appreciate your comment but don't underestimate other people works. Each have their own pros and cons. Build what works for you. ATS is not for everybody, some works some don't. My design 100% guaranteed. Not forgetting, it is natural as well. Peace.

Not forgetting that no harvest to be made. Has been running since march without any maintenance other than dosing. Dosing takes 10 seconds to do once a day. Thank you.

What type of ats? There's something wrong if you still have nitrates and phosphates.

That's cool, cleaning the screens once a month works better for me. Been running since march? That's cool, mines been running for about 2 years with no maintenance except cleaning the screens once a month. Cleaning the screens takes about 1 minute per month.
Thank you.

Good for you. Happy reefing

Check out this thread and I have shut this down and made double the size in width and I have double the growth but nitrates are still high due to heavy bio load..

You got very impressive growth there my friend. Your carnivorous inhabitant must be very happy with all the foods from your scrubber. Hopefully with your soon to be nitrate destroyer will strip nitrate as good as mine.

Thanks djbon, We think that having algae scrubber will keep our nutrients low but it does not, it helps to keep it low but some times we need to have army of multiple approaches to defeat nutrients, I going to build this reactor to defeat nitrates and for funn,...

Agree with you. Multiple weapons are better to keep nutrients at bay. Some reefers had nutrients introduction more than what they can remove on daily basis. I am still new in reefing, still a long way to go. We learn by sharing information on keeping a fraction of the sea at home. Looking forward to your build.

you are absolutely correct, I got the ceramic rings, waiting on ceramic bio balls, I want to use combination of ceramic breathable rings, ceramic breathable balls and ceramic breathable ceramic tubes since they are very very pours and plenty of room to bacteria growth, I am waiting for supplier for prices, Marine pure is just too much cost..

Those items are quite common here. Its readily available at many lfs, even freshwater aquarium shops. Can't wait to see your build.
