Just a reminder that tomorrow evening starting at 6:00PM Kentrob11 will begin modifying skimmer pumps to mesh wheels. Once all mods are completed we will be heading out for some "Holiday Cheer"at Margaritas Mexican restaurant.

Kent requested that you brind $1.00 for each modified pump to cover the cost of the mesh.

His address and the address of the Mexican restaurant are as follows:

3201 Seven Pines Rd
Belleville, IL
62222

and the address for Margaritas is:

108 East A. Street
Belleville, IL
62222

Be There!:D

This mod does work!!! this is 3 days of very dry skimmate...and I mean very dry. I only have the feedpump on the G3 meshmodded and it works so much better than a stock G3. Oh and in case you haven't figured it out yet...I am a fan of the meshmod...extremely small bubbles and thick foam.

Yeah took mine apart tonight so It can dry. Took the impeller out to find a ton of tiny snail shells wedge between the needles and some of them were broke.. Explains why the skimmer has not been performing that great.

I also drilled my ASM tonight for the Recirc mod so that should help make it work 10x better plus it will keep it from sucking up snail shells

Jack what size pump do you feed it with?

GenX 1500 small and a nice slow feed packed with tons of microbubbles. I had to throttle the air down on the GenX...it was too much for the body of the G3. :D The Sedra is still stock.

Wow you should mod the Sedra and feed the G3 with the GenX Non mod'ed.

How many GPH is the GenX1500? I didn't think that pump was that much bigger than a MaxiJet..

You coming out tomorrow?

It isn't any bigger than a Maxi1200. It is the extra air it feeds in that makes the difference. I don't think a Maxi would be able to get that much air in. I thought about doing the Sedra but I am going to keep it as is for now, it works great.

I have been thinking about putting a GenX 1500 on a small hangon back skimmer as a recirc Mod. I know the Maxijets you can run external but not sure if you can do that with a Genx pump. The skimmer size it 14"x4" do you think that pump would be to much flow?

Lonnie,
I know it makes it easier to do more things at one time but how are you going to determine which is more productive (recirc. vs. meshwheel)
How are you truly going to gauge additional performance if you do them both at the same time?

Mesh wheel is for the ASM G5..

I just wanted to know how that pump works that Jack has because of a different thought of mine. (for My Nano) After I get it to work right I will make the Mesh mod.

Edit;
Now on the ASM I'm doing both mods at once. Everyone that has done one or the other as always stated this is the best way to go. It could only make it work better, IMO

You use both.....

You need to either quit drinking or drink more.

I was wondering how he'll determine which of the two is the one being productive. It's a no brainer that it will be better but how do you determine which is causing it to be better if you do both mods at the same time

 my brains out for the evening. Well, a recirculating mod will instantly make it better because everything gets skimmed multiple times. To determine if the pump will work better he needs to measure the something something that Kent explained earlier.

It's just something that I guess you have to go with your gut? I dunno, I guess just going by word of mouth.

I don't know how a stock G3 performs...mine was recirc and gate valved from the start. I do know that getting more air and smaller bubbles in the tube and increasing the contact time is skimming 101. There is a point of diminishing returns though, you can put too much air in and not gain any additional benefit. The goal is finding the correct volume of air and contact time. It is a matter of tweaking finding the right spot. I am not done with playing with the G3, it has a lot of turbulence that I will be finding a way to smooth out soon. I don't really think I am going to get any better performance out of this skimmer though. :D
