Dosing a nano

So what if anything are you dosing your nano tank with? Is dosing the tank nesessary if you do monthly water changes? My tank is a 38g solana with mixed coral

Imo if you aren't checking everytime dosing a nano is not necessary. Weekly water changes with good salt is enough.

^ depends on your tanks demand....

I was dosing my 25G IM Lagoon 15ml each of Alk and CA daily using a dosing pump and splitting the dose up over 4X's daily.

You need to see what your tank is using and go from there.,... Tanks are constantly changing so you need to check regularly and adjust from there or you can have serious issues.....

Water changes work on tanks with softies or small LPS demands.

Good luck!

I agree with murpfreef, heavy corals will deplete alk quickly. Weekly water changes are best especially if you are heavy on corals (softies and lps) otherwise figure out what’s your sps consumes and start dosing. If you decide to dose, still test bi-weekly or monthly; coral demands change overtime. And still do water changes to maintain trace elements.

at the moment i do not have a lot of corals. But thinking long term... i realisticly will probably be doing monthly water changes. Unless somerhing goes arye. So dosing might be benificial.

I do weekly water changes, but it is just on a pico. End up changing 25% of the water each week. Don't dose at all. Zoanthids, chalice, plating monti, green polyp toadstool all doing good. Also hung a large (for the tank size) power filter off the back and filled it with MarinePure spheres to function as a small sump.

I use red sea coral pro it has higher cal/alk on my sps nano reef. I used to dose before using this salt. Cal alk mag and seachem FUEL on a jaebo 4 head doser growth was amazing but I have been able to achieve the same results Now it just sits unused in the stand. Went to absolutely no doser after making the switch to RSCP from IO

I'm just starting my Reef and I've been just using water changes. Granted I have no need to dose anything seeing my bio load is minimal.

With that I plan to change to Red Sea and maintain weekly water changes. If that won't keep up I'll dose accordingly.

Ditto on the frequent and large water changes. This is the secret for keeping nano's and pico's. I change 5 gal every two weeks on my IM Nuvo 16 (which is about 11 gal after sand, rock and other appurtenances). Keeps everything where it needs to be. So steady I've cut back on testing.
