Two concerns. One is aeration. Adding organic carbon consumes O2 and produces CO2 (lowering pH). Without a skimmer, those issues are more of a concern, but can be minimal if the dose is low.
The second is what happens to the bacteria that eat some of the aspartic acid and multiply. That is an experiment, IMO, but not necessarily "risky", especially at low doses.
