Dosing baking soda...

I'm going to be using baking soda in attempt to bring my Alk and pH up as they currently sit a little on the low side. Just wondering if there's any precautions I should take before hand.

Whats your ALK and PH at?? Id try to figure out why they are low before trying to band aid the problem. Whats your CA and MAG at?

My pH is at about 7.8 and my Alk is around 1.8. Calcium is fine: 480. Not sure about my Mag but considering my Calcium is ok I'd assume it's fine.

with a ph of 7.8 i would bake the baking soda first so it will raise the ph. unbaked baking soda will lower the ph. to bake it just spread the amount you need on a cookie sheet or Pyrex pan and put it in the over at 400 for an hour or so.

find your target Alk level but dont try to raise it up all at once. do it 25% or 50% at a time.
