Well This is Fun…Not!

In preparation for finally setting up my dosing pump, I did my weekly water change today. Let the tank settle for several hours and tested Alk, Ca, Mg, NO3 and PO4. The first three needed some adjusting (then wait 5 days, test again to determine your daily need).

Well, from when I tested until when I dosed, I misread my own handwriting to the soda ash. I was SUPPOSED to dose 22.5 mL, I dosed 225 ml😳

pH skyrocketed according to my Apex. Currently using vinegar (the only thing I had) to try to bring it down.

Rics and Gorgs are not happy. Everything else looks okay so far.

Yep, not paying close enough attention. The little “.” makes a big difference. Sharing here so, hopefully, someone will learn from my mistake.

Well, I’ve been 8.27 - 8.29 for an hour now. Rics and Gorgs still not happy.

Agreed you may have dodged a bullet and caught it quickly. My ph regularly runs high, at least according to apex but it’s been that way for months so my SPS are probably used to it

I have had my pH between 8.2- 8.4 as a daily swing for long periods of time.
I don't know that I would change anything else right now.

Most salt mixes run high on the alk, what salt are you using?
Plain boring old IO.

I used Coralife for many, many years until I ran into two different buckets in a row (different lot #’s) that had extremely low Alk and sky high Ca.
