Dosing Kalk Q's

So now that I'm getting more and more into SPS (and am still saving for a Calcium reactor), I think I want to give Kalk a chance. One problem, I don't know how! What is the basic setup I'll need to do this? And how often, how much etc...

I gather that my topoff water will have Kalk in it, right? Thanks guys!

I have been doseing Kalk in my top off at about 1 teaspoon a gal for about 2 years now. I have never had an overdose and i only use a gal jug fed by gravity. i hate it but it works.

I hear you man! I was doing that for a while too until recently. I was getting tired of the inconsistency in my flow so I got a dosing pump and it works great.

I could never get the darn gravity drip to stay constant. Didn't over dose but couldn't keep up with evaporation for more than about an hour.

I now have a 35 gallon tote, with a Tunze top-off system and a Tunze Kalk dispenser. The latter would be incredibly easy to fabricate yourself. The great thing about this is that I can leave the house for days at a time and keep the kalk dosing and the water level perfect. Since I've auto-topped-off, I notice my durso standpipe has been much quieter and doesn't go out of adjustment... i think the change in volume of water in the system messed it up.

So you basically just use one of those Kent Aquadosers? Is that correct? And I imagine you use a medical supply type flow restrictor to dial in the drip rate?

BTW, frags are doing great! Thanks again!

Dude, if you didn't blow a ton of cash on that wave maker then the calc' reactor would be running now. Nevermind I'm just jealous, that Tunze set up is freakin' cool. Ken has a used reactor one at the shop but I'm not familiar with the make, I'm sure he'll cut you a deal. You'll still need a cylinder, reg, and aqualifter ($250). I have a Knop C reactor and I drip Kalk anyway but not since the great tank crash of '06.
