Dosing Systems

Hello all,
I am ready to start dosing two-part calcium and alkalinity.

I am not sure where to begin so I am starting to read up on dosing.

First of all I wanted to purchase a dosing unit.
I have the Apex so the DOS was on my list, but I have also been eyeballing the GHL Doser.

Can anyone give me the pro's and cons of the two listed above or give me direction on other dosers?

Ive been using an APEX controlling 3 of the BRS 1.1 ml/min pumps and BRS 3 part stuff for the past 6 years. Never had a problem.

Dont really see the need to spend the money on the DOS system other than being able to control it a little bit easier...but its a dosing system. on for x min every x hours and done.

I would love to know more on how you set this up.

I use to run 2 BRS dosers with my Apex, but moved to the GHL Doser 2 and absolutely love it. The BRS dosers are good, but for precise dosing, GHL is amazing. I have a 22g nano full of sps, so over/under dosing is a problem and the BRS dosers would fluctuate too much for me. With the GHL, I can test any time of day and it's spot on with only minor drops between dosing times. You get what you pay for and the GHL is worth every penny.
As far as programming the Apex with BRS dosers, it's pretty straight forward. Just go to Neptune Systems forum and you'll have quite a few programs to start with.
Good luck!

You won't regret it. My only issue was the set up via a PC. I'm a mac guy, but fortunately just bought a PC laptop for my son. Once it's set up, everything is controlled via the cloud (any browser you choose) and there's an app as well, but you have to be at home to use it. I like how it tells you how much fluid is left based on your dosing amount and it will give you a warning when you get low. You can purchase level sensors and stirrers too. I think I'm going to pick up a temp probe and pH probe for redundancy.
Their customer support is good. Congrats!

I use a ghl doser 2 for a three part awuaforest dosing regiment. I'm a mac guy so I use the app and the internal wifi to control. Makes my life so much easier. I would suggest buying a Hanna checker for alkalinity and maybe calcium so you can monitor and dial in your dosing. As my corals continue to grow I usually have to increase the amount dosed as tank needs increase.

3 BRS dosers and apex for me. Alk is dosed every hour on the hour, and calcium is dosed every hour on the quarter hour(15mins after the alk dose).

#1: Sodium carbonate used for ALK but dosed when ph is 8.05 or BELOW.
#2: Sodium bicarbonate used for ALK but dosed when ph is 8.06 or ABOVE.
#3: Calcium

Well I went ahead and purchased the GHL. Hope it was the correct decision .

The GHL is by far the best stand alone doser you can get. It was a great choice! Unlike the BRS dosers, the Dos can be calibrated and is always accurate. It will notify you when your dosing containers are low, can monitor temp, control stirrers and can be expanded and control additional dosers. I think you will be very pleased with your choice.
