dots on blue tang HELP

Well the flashing and itching continued tonight. Also there is sideways swiming. Sorry steelhead, but blue is in QT now. Fairly easy to catch to which shouldn't be either.

Stuart, if I use the prazipro on the DT will it eliminate the floating black ich worms that may be in the sand or does it just work on the fish itself? If I see no signs of these spots on the other fish should I or do I need to still treat the DT?

Prazipro will kill the worms themselves whether they are attached to a fish or not. You can treat the display tank as I described. However, if you choose not to do so, then you need to leave the display free of any fish for at least 8 weeks. Otherwise, you really have to treat the display tank with prazipro, or you will revisit this problem once you re-add the tang back to the display. As stated above, dose every 3 to 5 days. If you dose your tang in quarantine and the display, you should do 2 successive treatments back to back for each. Skimmer and all chemical filtration need to be kept off line. Also, keep your lights out for the first 24 hours after each dose because the medication is photosensitive. I would dose, wait five days, do a large water change, and then redose, wait 5 more days, do another large water change and then put your skimmer and all chemical filteration back on line.

Like stated tang is in QT. I will either treat the display or move all remaining fish to my 55 for the 8 weeks. I gotta figure out the best way to do this AND have a clean disease free tank when done.
Maybe move all to the 55, leave DT fallow, then treat singly or doubly in QT, the back into DT. Sound like a sound plan?

I don't have the time to read through the whole post, but the minute I saw the pics, I thought I could be of help. My blue hippo had the exact same thing. He still ate like a pig, but continued to flash.....I saw no decrease in the number of black spots for 2-3 straight weeks. What was odd, is that from day to day, the black spots seemed to be in different spots on the fish each day...and yes some had little while cysts or something hanging from the fish. Black ich, black spot, or whatever, this isn't detrimental to the fish's life. Feed well and keep up on water quality. After a month, all the black spots are gone on my hippo. I know I may get flamed for this, but coincidence or not, I added a cleaner shrimp and the black spots with white cysts decreased rapidly the next day and the fish was constantly.....Every 30 minutes, going over for a cleaning....you have a cleaner shrimp? Let the fish be, I would be VERY surprised if any of your other fish get this....then again I don't have time to read the whole post....good luck and keep us updated! Never saw any sign of it on my other fish, and this has been several months ago...just my two cents

oooo...just noticed your last post...already in QT...good luck with that...hopefully he doesn't stress out....Good old Reef Central....so passionate about QT....lost many fish chasing them out of my display to throw them into a crammed 20 gallon......however, QT a new fish is WAY different than chasing a sick fish out to put into QT....he would have been fine, but I wish you the best! Good luck with that hippo!

QT, then tonight started medicating. I really didn't have to chase him much by the time I broke down and placed him in QT. Thanks for the comments though. Yes I do have a cleaner, but I have never seen him go by it. When he does swim by he swims away as soon as the cleaned touches him.

a single cleaner usually won't do it....they need to be in groups of 2 at least, best 3....they work better in a group and one tends to be more aggressive and much more proactive....once I added the additional cleaner, both started to clean more aggressively....going for rides....after a day of this, the fish began to realize they were of great help to how he felt! Regardless, good luck with treatment.....you might want to pick up another cleaner or two in the coming months! Don't over feed them either....then they will really jump on fish!

Well blue has been in QT for four days. Treatment started with paraguard on the first full day after transfer. There was a dose placed then, then tonight I dosed again. So far blue shows no sign of any stress, and the black spots are gone or almost gone depending on the original size. She is constantly swimming, eating, and acting much better.

The bottle doesn't mention how long to treat, so how long should I treat?

So any ideas how long to treat? Total of 8 days with treatment every other day.

Side note, wifey just noticed the HT. Is it called a HT because the lights all white? Lol
