Dottyback/pseudochromis info

Well I have been out of the hobby for a bit(due to school and moving, and all that other annoying stuff) but I finally have a tank up and ready to go again... it has been cycling for months...

I am looking to try something new, something I have never tried before. I have had a number of gobies, blennies, and wrasses over the years, but I have never had a dottyback of any kind.

I have a 24 gallon nano tank, it may get some small coral frags, or a small invert or two but the main purpose of the tank is to keep a fish(or two), it might just be a fish tank with nothing else. That and I don't know how reef friendly they are. I would like to put at most 2 small fish in it, but depending on the dottyback, it might just end up being one fish. I would love a bigger tank, but the budget says no, and since I have had the nano for a while I don't have much choice other than work with what I already have.

So what can people tell me about these guys, what do they eat, etc. And what, if anything do you think I can keep with them in a tank this size(and don't say clownfish- I can't stand them) but I would like to know if there are any non-clownfish recommendations.

Thanks :)

I've read that they can be extremely mean fish, but they are fine with corals.... I wanted one awhile back before I heard about their anger problems

I have a purple psuedochromis and he is very territorial. He gets along with my toby puffer because the puffer is bigger than he is. The purple has also attacked snails and crabs.

get a pair of fridmani ... nice color , mild manners and will not touch any coral...
other option... sankey ...if you like black and white...

The purple pseudo in my tank used to be the king at first but he learned to get along with everyone... but then again i know he will be a bully towards any of his species...

Try an orchid dotty. They are not as mean and are one of the easy going dottys. Also, you could add the dotty last so that it can't set up its territory.
