Double Star

Hello,

A LFS had a starfish labeled as a "Double Star".... The starfish is whitish in color with a brownish star on it's back....

I asked one of the knowledgeable saltwater employee what that starfish likes to eat and how it eats.... The employee said he did not know...... I searched the web and have not found much information either....

Does anyone know anything about this species??? What it eats?? How it eats??? etc. ....

Thanks,
Brian

I wouldn't trust the employees on the naming of the star. It might help us ID it if you could go back to the store and take a picture of the starfish.

It was probably Iconaster. Like most stars in the hobby, not much is known about their diet. They're reported to feed on encrusting invertebrates, but who really knows what that means. They're actually listed on the IUCN red list of vulnerable species.

Here are two pictures of the starfish....

This one I modified the dark balance to try to bring out some details...

Thanks for all your help....
