Do you guys/gals use double union ball valve/ single union valves on plumbing. Or what do use guys do for quick disconnect? Pics please if possible.

I checked them out but all I saw was schedule 80 and im using 40. I picked one up today from lowes and was wondering if I made the right selection.

double union from Bulkreefsupply.com

i used the lowes ones on mine...seemed to be good quality & the price was very nice

melev did tell me the single-union ones from home depot were crap

I agree the price is amazing online they sell for about 30 + but in the store they are 15 bucks. Do you guys put them on your drain lines or do you only use them on external pumps?

You don't really need a valve on a drain line. You don't really want one either.... just something else to worry about leaking, clogging up etc. You would use a valve on a full siphon drain, in Bean's S&FOS. Other than that, they are really only needed on external pumps.

I ask beacuse this is my problem my drain lines once installed will block me from removing my skimmer. So if I dont use unions what would be the best way to have easy access to my sump/skimmer.

What are you going to sit there and tell me you have a space issue in your sump? :D Can see the need arising for unions (if you do use schedule 80, they generally have better seals and will hold up better than schedule 40.) Don't see that a valve would be of much use though. You shut one drain down, you gotta shut the whole thing down.

Just a casual observation, I would cut those elbows by the wall out, and use 45s to get into the sump, might not give you more clearance, but would make your drains work better. Ytivarg, don't you know. FWIW.

Jim

Not a space issue in the sump, I just installed my overflow in the wrong location, and the pvc is not glued yet just doing a dry run. Thanks for the tip on using the 45's.

I can't see very well, an over head shot might help, but can you get both drains in the back left hand corner?

That would take too much work....... am looking at the sump.... can the drains drop in back left corner of sump behind the skimmer...

J

That might work once I install the 45's and maybe cut the pvc down a bit.

Good sump design, where did you get the idea? I would try and shoot for that back corner. Finesse it if you can, in the end, though, ya gotta do what you gatta do, to make it workable.

True Union Ball Valves can be removed from either side of the valve. They have union fittings on both sides so you can turn the valve off and remove either side. By using a true union ball valve you eliminate the use of unions and save a lot of space.
