Ok so honestly this is going to probably just be one of my giant rambles... Ha but bear with me, just looking for opinions on things to watch out for with this particular situation.
I currently have a 45g cube heavily stocked with LPS a few softies and SPS as well. This particular tank has been running for 10 months now and I've had my share of losses due to my own stupidity of flooding the tank with top off water :/. Its been months since the crash and since then everything has been thriving. I recently purchased a custom 100g full set up from someone local and have been itching to set it up and transfer everything. Well the time has come to jump on it and get it going for sure with in the week as I have a friend whos getting out and needs his live stock gone asap. He has some beautiful sps and I will be getting them all. Most are 3-6" mature colonies as well.
I have a ton of live rock that has been curing for months now so I have plenty to add to the new system on top of my established rock, Ill be adding 60-80lbs of new live sand along with the 20lbs of established sand I have, and then I've got all the water from the 45 which currently needs a major water change to get the Nitrate and Phosphates back down.. BUT I think ill just leave it as is since I will essentially be doubling the water volume plus some as the new sump is huge.
As far as fish bio load I only have a pair of flame wrasses and a lubbock's fairy that will be going in. I plan on keeping it that way until I'm positive everything has balanced back out. Then i'll probably add 10-12 chromis which inevitably always ends up being 3-5 less than you started with in a few weeks once they establish a picking order. In my personal experience anyway lol.
So... My concern is for the health of the SPS! As its almost being like a brand new tank although the cycle will be extremely minimal if any. Now I'm not new to moving tanks, or upgrading to larger system as that's what I actually do for a living and have never had any catastrophic coral losses. BUT I've yet to ever add this many hard corals at once when also going up in tank size. I know my cal and alk demands will obviously sky rocket so ill be on top of that testing every few days and adjusting my DOS dossers accordingly. The plus side is the guy im getting the corals from actually has a large bioload and even with bio pellets his Nitrates are 10-15 and phosphates 5. In saying that everything still thrives and his colors are great. He also uses dosers as well so being able to have a base line and just dose close to what he does for a similar sized system will be good.
As far as proper equipment goes i've got most everything covered. 48" 8 bulb ATI dimable with freshly burnt in Giesemanns, plenty of flow with 2 MP40qd's, a Vertex v6 return running the tank and two reactors for gfo and carbon until I make the switch to all in one bio pellets, and a Vertex Omega 130 which will do the job until I up my fish load and that will be the first upgrade. Oh and Apex EVERYTHING lol .
Now if you've managed to suffer through all of my awesome grammar
any help will be appreciated from others who may have experience doing something this risky in the past.
