I know we are in different area but Pinch a penny here in fort myers carries both PH Plus ( Ready to go Alk) and Calcium hardness ( Ready to go also) both are like 30$ for 40lb bags. Great thing about these are they are both like 99.8% pure so no real additives or anything. Hope it helps! You are lookign for these color bags with 99.8% Sodium Carbonate and 100% calcium Chloride (think dow is like 96% with filler)

I've been using Leslie's pool supply hardness plus with no I'll effects for over a year, I'll note that after mixing 2cups/1g some precipitation settles on the bottom after a day, I filter out the precipitate using a coffee filter twice.

For alk I get a 13.5 arm and hammer baking soda from Sam's, I think its $7, i use 2.5cups/1g and just bake at 350° for 1.5hrs

These chemicals are ready to go you do not need to bake any of these, its liek pre packaged soda ash. 2.5 cup per gal for cal and 3 per gal for alk. one 5lb bag of each has lasted me over a year. They are nicely concentrated and need to be honed in like me using a doser and you will have a little bit of sediment/settle on bottom of containers, i just stir every other day and easy as that. under 40$ for 2 part for the year for me :). Any questions LMK!

I like this but I'm concerned. Aren't you afraid of heavy metals or any other impurities? It only takes a few ppm to kill a reef?

I've used Dow Flake for years with good results. Still have half bucket but it's solid block now. So kinda hard to break apart. So thought I try something new so far it's working just as good as Dow flake. Might add that this is a 180 mixed reef running with no water changes in 5 or more years. Been carbon doing vinegar and sugar to take care no3 and pos4. Thanks to Cubed Reefer for the heads up on PNP.

This was also a concern of mine...is there any info on how much if any these products might contain?

they have it on the bags guys :)

Calcium is 100% pure (calcium chloride) i belive dow flake is just under 97% or around there

Alk is 99.8% Sodium Carbonate

Both are the purest additives I have found outside big box 2 part pre package
