Any one know of a place a bit closer to So. Cal. or that sells Dowflake and Magflake in quantities less than 50lbs? Being in So. Cal., I'm having a tough time finding this stuff and the cost of shipping 100lbs accross the country is going to be way too high. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

Thanks Randy. I read your article with great interest. The problem I'm having is finding the Mag Flakes at the sources you provided in quantities less than 50lbs. It's gonna cost a lot of UPS fees to get 50lbs of Mag Flakes from back east to California.

Try Univar. They had 50lb bags of MgCl2 last time I was there but I didn't check the brand. www.univar.com shows several CA locations.
My suggestion is to find some friends and split the bag(s).
