Dr Tims fishless cycle question

So I set up my tank and decided to use Dr Tims. Well I accidentally left the foam pad on my HOB. It says to remove filter socks for 48 hrs. Did I already screw up?

A foam pad for a filter is perfectly fine and is actually where you want the bacteria to settle. A filter sock, which is used in the sump, is a much finer filter and is recommended to be removed initially because it can trap the particles the nitrifying bacteria is adhered to when shipped in the bottle.

Awesome thanks. I was afraid I'd screwed up already.

a little fishfood will do it, too. THere's a 'setting up' sticky ^^ that may give you some general help. Water chemistry is everything in the marine hobby, and understanding the way it works will keep you from troubles. Basically the bacteria need to eat in order to reproduce, and you'll be nurturing a variety of them into a whole lot of them. As long as that happens, and as long as you go slow at starting, your bioload will never overpower your processing power.

How did your fishless cycle go looking at this myself this week will be filling up my tank
