Dragon Face Pipefish

DSC_23672.jpg

That was mine. It was not doing well with the flow in my sps tank and had to be removed. It now resides in a low flow seahorse tank.

I have two in my reef tank, along with two Janss pipefish. All eat frozen, flakes and are doing well. If you get any, get a pair - they are very social animals.

I picked up a small pair,
I sure hope I can get them on Frozen.

I have only had them a few days,
They are interesting to watch.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
If you're not 100% they're eating after a few days, you might want to add some pods to your refugium/tank. And when you feed your tank, remember, they're going to be slower (at least at first), so turn of the pumps, returns, and powerheads for enough time for them to eat. Mine love mysis and cyclopeeze.
My favorite part about having a pair is how much they enjoy each others company. But you'll soon see this for yourself!

i have 2 dragon faced pipe fish in my 125 reef, they both disapered after about a month in my tank, a month and a half later i found them both in my refuguim. i cought them and put them back in my dt, and they have stayed there since. i have had them for a year now and i have watched them what i believed to do a mating dance, they were all twisted up and moving in a way i never seen before. about two months ago, one of them got really wide right under the back fin. almost twice as wide as the regular body for only about 1 inch right under the back fin. i dont know. anybody have any ideas. i will try to get a photo. they seem really happy.

I have really wanted a pair of these......how well do they do in your tank with the other inhabitants? What all is in there with them?

Thanks--Matt

Your female deposited eggs "on" the male's pouch, so he was pregnant, which is why he was "wide".

just got back from lunch and i saw the pipe fish, he has been that way for a good month and a half, maybe two. still the same, looking pregnant,
the pipe fish are doing good, i have a yellow tang, two cleaner shrimp, lyre tail anthias one male two female, clown tang, unicorn tang, klauswits blenny, lawnmower blenny, purple headed wrase?, two dragon faced pipe fish, two black clowns, everyone seems to get along except for the unicorn tang, he likes to steal food away from the corals, i notice when i first got my pink tube anenome he had a bunch of marks on the side of his face and gill plates from trying to steal food from it, that will teach him.LOL.

i never see them eat food i put in during feeding times, they are always picking at the rocks thou. i think the main thing is that you have an established tank with lots of amphipods> little bugs.

My pair is very interesting to watch.
There is a lot more interaction between the Pipe over my Horses.
They actually act like they want to be around each other.

I bought three of these last Friday -- $22 each, *delivered to my house*!!! It was the first time I bought anything from this vendor -- certainly no complaints -- fish were fine, and can't beat his free delivery service (NYC area and Nassau Co., Long Island).

Anyway.... OMG, these little fellers are impossibly CUTE!!! I put them in a 5gal acrylic hex -- they're small, it's plenty big enough for them. They eagerly snick up newly hatched BBS. As mentioned, they are very social -- always all three together.

i was in new york for a year for work. worked in garden city, jfk, and laugardia.
i lived close to hicksville. anyway i got some photos of the one that might be pregnant, it hard to see in the photos but right in the middle for about an inch you can see that it is bigger, been this way for a while.
