just curious about other people,it seems as if Ive been planning a aquarium for years but something(i.e student loans, life)always delays my tank.Antone else care to share there dream(tank plans and there delays,or am i alone??

This definatly is a hobby that requires planning and lots of patience, ive been reading rc for 3 or 4 years now and still im in the planning phase.I guess im just curious to see who else had planned there tank for so long. This site is awsome though and most of the time and the willingness to share and help fellow reefers is really cool.

yea this is a cool website...thats good that youre planning alot...it makes everything go so much easier...i wish it was the same way for my pond...to build it i bought 2x4s and 2x6s to find out that they are actually 1.5x3.5s and 1.5x5.5s im lucky that i caught this before i cut all the wood

so whats your dream tank

i had been thinking about it for 2 years before I started. I was more concerned about the amount of time it would take. The one thing I didnt plan was the expense. I thought the tank itself would be the most expensive part, but its the other things that go along that add up. I would say make sure you have the extra money youll need for it. It is a nice hobby though, I dont regret it and it looks nice and is relaxing just make sure you have the time and money to put into it especially in the beginning cause youll make mixtakes and need the extra time and money. Do others agree? Also I need to figure out how to go on a vacation and find someone to watch it.

I have kept fresh water fish for a good few years now and as soon as I got into it I wanted a salt water tank, the corals, crabs, shrimp etc. interest me more than the fish! I have been reading for as long as I can remember and last year I finally decided that enough is enough and got everything started but don't have the room in my mum and dad's house (I think there is loads of room but they don't agree!!) so I am now buying my first house and the tank is all I can think about getting set up! I am more excited about getting the tank going then buying the house!! I have been buying things slowly for the last year and have made a couple of mistakes, I bought a Primz skimmer then found out it's no good and now have a Detec, I put the primz on ebay but nobody wanted it so I am now stuck with 2 skimmers! I have a HOB fuge but now I can have a fish room I am thinking of buying a 100gal stock tank to use as a fuge/sump. The list goes on!! I am now also banned from the only fish shop on the island that sells salt water because they have 2 manderians in a bare tank and 1 other in a tank with 1 small bit of rock, there stomachs are all sunken in and are going to die soon. I told the people behind the counter about it and they just ignored me! I went back to look at the other fish and saw some one trying to buy one of them so I told him he shouldn't and explained why, as you can imagen the shop owner wasn't to happy and have banned me! So now to top it all off I will have to either go to the UK mainland or get everything shipped to me now, but I would still rather that then buying anything from those scum bags!! Sorry for the rant!

Planning????

My ex rang up one morning and said I had to go and pick up a tank that someone was going to pull down and flush the fish. Ok I guess I had a couple of hours to plan where it was going to go...

I spent a couple of years thinking about a SW tank (I have many FW tanks). Money was an issue, but things have improved financially, and now we can afford a SW tank. We got a used 120g tank, and a lot of used equipment.

As my dream fish are not possible in community tanks, I may end up with multiple tanks. I really want a seahorse tank, and I really want a boxfish. But for now, I have a SW community tank, to become a reef eventually, so I can gain some experience before I go getting harder fish with more specialized needs.
