Dremels, what to buy

I know many people use dremels to frag their corals, especially chalices. I was thinking of purchasing one soon. What models/brands do you guys use? What bits/accessory kits do you guys use? Thanks!

Hey Rudy, FYI I saw a sign in the window of that little hardware shop (I think it's Hibbert Lumber) on the NE corner of 5th & G that said 20% off dremel tools.

Rudy,

I have had Dremel, Black & Decker, and another brand sold at Costco. All of them did the job. However, my favorite was the Black & Decker - and I normally don't lile B&D tools. The Dremel brand is nice in that there are so many different options and accessories. The kit sold at Costco will probably have all the bits that you need - however, the case is a piece of junk. Admittedly, I haven't checked Costco in awhile, so they may have changed the kit.

I use the grinding wheel for cutting hard corals. The grinding wheels are thin, so they can break easily. But who cares, they come in like 50 packs. Just make sure you wear eye protection when using the grinding wheel. They also sell diamond cutting wheel. I don't know how well those works.

Get the dremel with the quick-lock mandrel. With this mandrel you do not need to unscrew the little screw to change blades, wheels. I use the quick-lock mandrel with the new diamond wheel for fragging. The wheel is larger than the standard diamond wheel and works great.

Consider a cordless rechargable one...very portable and no cord to get in the way.

I have the cordless and love it!

I originally bought the corded but went back to get the cordless. Just my $.02.

What diamond wheel are you guys using? I need to get one and was curious as to which? I hear you can get good deals on EBay?

Very true ;)

One of the first signs that one has 'reefing' issues

Hey guys.. get the fiberglass reinforced cut off wheels. They are very strong and you wont be replacing those cheap thin ones every few minutes. Not to mention, when the thin ones break it hurts! Safety glasses are an absolute must with either type though. ;)

Cordless Craftsmen with the biggest diamond blade you can find.

Minh, save yourself some time and $$ and buy a diamond blade, they last forever. Lowes sells one that is like2-3" with a nice quick disconnect for cleanings. It's the "dremel" brand
