this is my first post with a pic. hope this works? drilled my tank this weekend. I marked where i wanted the hole and rolled plumers putty in a tube and circled the mark and placed my guide over the putty and pressed it to hold the guide filled with water then taped the underside and layed towels inside the tank to catch the plug in case the tape failed. then drilled on a slow speed checking for heat buildup every min. or so and WALA a hole is made.
thanks goes out to Joe for lending me the drill bit and guide they worked great

thanks i was worried about messin up but it went fine .if you take your time its easy.I dont think anybody would have any trouble if they just ask questions here about anything.
this is a great place to ask!

I have read an extensive amount of material concerning drilling a tank there isnt a lot about drill speed. When you started the hole I assume you started the hole at an angle or did you drill a 90 degree angle right into the glass.

1. Did you start the drill prior to making contact with the glass or did you make contact with glass and then start the drill?

2. When you did start drilling did you run the drill full power or maybe 50%?

I placed the drill on the glass through the wood guide at a 90 degree with no pressure except the weight of the drill. my drill is a variable speed so i started slow then worked my way up to 1/3 the speed of the drill. still just using the weight of the drill. once the bit was about 1/8 inch in the glass i took the guide off. checked for heat then continued drilling at 1/3. stopping every 2 or 3 min to feel if it was getting hot. you will know when you come through the other side. all the water will drain out then slow down untill you cut through.
hope this helps!!
