While a pimped-out goldfish bowl may be Jason's ideal tank, it may not be everyone's cup of tea. I think we should each post our dream tank. Here's mine:
When I was getting ready to upgrade to my new 55G tank, I was debating over what stand configuration I wanted and what size sump I should run. That's when I had a stroke of genius (i.e. one too many Old Milwaukees). I decided to forget all the fancy-schmancy stuff and go totally redneck on this mother!
I've decided to scrap the whole stand and sump idea completely. Instead, I'm going to set my 55G up on milk crates stacked 3-high x 4-wide x 2-deep. The top surface of the stand will be an old oak door that's been sitting out in my shed for a couple years. (See honey?! Told ya I'd find a use for that ol' door! Git rid of perfectly good wood? You must be crazy!)
My tank will be set up on the other side of the wall from the hall bathroom. I'll run my overflow and return lines through the wall into the bathroom. Don't worry, there's already a hole there from when my brother's wife's cousin's father got drunk at our annual pig roast and punched his hand through the wall following a heated argument over whether you should use a dry rub or a sauce when BBQing a pork belly in the smoker!
Anyway, in the bathroom/fishroom, the overflow line will drain into the tub. Of course, I'll have to make sure my brother cleans it out real good like after he gits done with his last batch of bathtub gin. I'll use an ol' water pump from the General Lee that's sittin' out in my front yard for the return line. Well, it's not the REAL General Lee. It's just a rusted out 1982 Z28 painted like the General Lee. It ain't goin' no where anyhow, what with it up on blocks and missing both doors. Ma thinks we should paint it terracotta and plant petunias in the trunk. Ya know, spruce 'er up a bit! As it is now, it's kinda an eyesore!
Anyhoo, I plan to hook up a gravity-fed ATO running from the shower head. That thing's had a slow leak for months anyway. Might as well put all that wasted water to good use, right?! Only thing I gotta figure out is how to keep from scalding my fish whenever someone flushes the toilet.
Oh well, I'm sure I'll get all this sorted out eventually!
