drilling a 90g. still full & upright

has anyone ever drilled a tank with water in it and still standing upright, i guess it would have to be upright to have water in it? any advice or secret tips i should know about? i just bought a bit from glass-holes.com and i will be drilling thursday so please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wouldnt EVEN attempt it. Be safe drin it and turn the tank on its side. Be a big mess if it cracks or explodes from the pressue.

i agree it is a big risk. you can but a couple of plastic tubs for anything in the tank. drain it drill it. give tubs to your wife and say "I got these for you to store your sweaters in the summer" hahaahahahahaha

i think if it is a tank with livestock...what are you going to do if it breaks?

bare in mind i grew up in las vegas and am NOT a gambler

i dont really think it is more or less likely to break if it is up right or on its side...i just say don't try to drill a tank with living organisms in it...i know it is a pain in the *** to take down all your rock work and remove the sand ( a whole nother can of worms (hahaha worms) if you are runing a DSB) but an intact tank will be your reward of patients and careful forethought!!!! just my opinion. excuse my stupid puns (my wife loves them so much)!!!!

i only have 4 fish in my tank right now(3 dansels and 1 tomatoe clown) i will definately take them out regardless. after moving i just got my tank up and running again after a year and a half. so i have money to spend on it and to boot im very very inpatient and hiper. thanx anyway ciljry. i pm you on what happens if you want or dont mind!

two reasons why i wouldn't do it. first, and as mentioned, what are you going to do if it breaks; and second, the pressure from the water will increase your chance of breaking it.

if the hole is near the top i would not worry about water pressure, but who wants the hole near the top?i have never drilled a full tank. secondly, but most important is the question that people want to knowis what about the inhabitants? i have seen thin glass (stuff making a ten gallon) explode and this is not tempered...not that this will be the case for a 90 which boasts 1/2 inch thick glass (i have drilled and re siliconed it)but do you want to take the chance....forget about the livestock....imigine 90 gallons of water on your floor!!!!!!!

I'm guessing the tank isn't against the wall.
Imagine all the glass flying at your arms if it does break. I don't think it is a good idea, but you may hear from someone that has done it. Keep us posted
