drilling a ASM G-3

I ran my G-3 externally because of a lack of room in the sump. When i do water changes, the skimmer goes nuts and fills the cup up very quickly. I have to shut it off for a while until the water mixes completely. I am pretty sure that is normal but please tell me if i am wrong. I was contemplating drilling a hole in cup near the top and running a hose back to the sump to prevent from overflows when nobody is present. Does anyone have directions on how to drill or if you can drill through the plastic? any input would be appriciated.
thanks

Go to the ASM website and they have alot of helpful advice.
They also have a forum where you can ask questions.
I just drilled my G3 with a 2" hole saw, took it nice and slow. The hole came out perfect. If you can remove the plastic pieces around the hole quickly, otherwise, since they are so hot they cool quickly and then you have to snap them off. (no big deal, just helpful advice)
The retrofitting ASM sells work great!
I am a true believer in this skimmer, it cranks out sludge day after day!

I am getting ready to mod my G3 again. Right now it has the recirc mod and gate valve mod. I am adding a Sedra 9000 to the oter side of the skimmer to receirc as well. I am curious to see how well it will work.
