Drilling glass tank.

I have A 29 I want to drill for overflow and return. I would also like to do a 10 if possible. What bits do y'all recommend and how do you decide what size bit to use for the different size bulk heads.

The ones brs has work fine. I believe they also have a chart on Witch bit to use on the the pipe.

If you're buying from BRS they have a chart at the bottom of the page where the bulkheads are for what size to drill for which bulkhead.

They BRS bits are good and a normal price. You can always but the bit on eBay if you want to save some cash but delivery is 6-8 weeks.

I am about to do the same thing on my BioCube 29. Is your tank already running? A friend and I are planning on drilling mine, but its been up for about a year and a half. Keep us posted on how it goes. What overflow are you using btw?

Just be sure the glass isn't tempered!

I practiced on an old 10. Side panel was tempered but the bottom wasn't. [emoji35]

Before the internet, I had to call the tank manufacturer to see if it was tempered before I drilled it. Drilled many a tank in my day.

If u can drill the 10 with no problems then u should be fine on the 29. It would seem like the 10 would be easier being it uses thin glass but it is actually the opposite, the thin glass makes it harder to drill because it will crack easily.

That's right. Remember "stripes = Tempered. Black computer screen = non-tempered."

I drill 10gal's all the time, DO NOT DRILL WITH IN 3In FROM THE TOP! If you do as soon as you tighten up the bulk head it's will most likely crack! Also if you can drill the side not the back. It's more stable. [emoji16]. I use the cheap bits I can send you the link if you want, I get 9-10 out of a bit before it's shot.

Look up Glass Holes overflow kits. Great overflow especially for small tanks and thr drill bit and template are included
