drilling glass

Don't forget... take pics/videos of you guys drilling! Always nice to add to the local "how-to" section and, well, just in case something happens at least it will be on video.. 8-/

Speaking of which, anyone see Mythbusters the other night where they were drilling glass?

not sure yet on the pump, but i know it needs to be big.does something 2500-3000gph sound about right?i still want to drill the back glass for 4 inlets and 1 outlet.

Depends on what you'll be keeping. from what I understand some SPS's like something like 50 to 60 turnover per hours. My 75 now gets about 30 and it is not enough - cyano started on the bottom side of my tank. It would be nice to get a good sized pump and then turn the flow down if it's to much. I always hear about back pressure hurting the pump, so I haven't done this - just wish I could. I'm looking for suggestions also - just started a new thread asking about flow and lights. I really like your pipe layout - I might have to lay it out in my tank and see if it would work.

You can use a Dart and throttle the outlet. No problem for the pump per the Sequence people, and it will use less power.

i wish it was a 120,that is one of my dream tanks.i wouldnt even try to do the 120 right now.it just isnt in the budget, the 90 is gonna cost me plenty, actually alot.most of my stuff isnt gonna work on the 90.

The Dart is 3600 gph with a 2 inch outlet. A 2 inch pipe has 3.14 inches of flow area. A one inch pipe has 0.785 inches of flow area. So three of them would have 2.355 inches of flow area. Four 1 inch pipes would have 3.14 inches of flow area equaling the size of the outlet of the pump. I would use a Dart with 4 outlets.

Set it up and it should flow about 3000 gph. You can throttle it back to meet your needs. It will consume less power per gallon that most pumps and has a 3 year warranty!!!

i have a problem with running 4 pipes at once,my valve is set up to open 3 of the 6 openings at a time.i could make a new drum for it i suppose.

ok i just checked on the dart and it is a great deal.3600 gph,160watts sweet.the price isnt that bad either.i guess i need to drill my intake hole for a 2" bulkhead.from what i saw at marinedepot that means i need a 3" hole for the bulkhead.......yikes.

Depends on the bulkhead. The schedule 80 bulkheads I have use a 3.25 inch hole. I'm drilling 3 of those tomorrow.
Where did you check on the pump? I bought mine at Reef Exotics.
