drilling tank

I've seen some good reports on glass-holes.com
I know I cant drill tempered glass....

Anyone have a hole saw out there?

if you go with glass-holes... they come with the proper bit to drill the hole.

After watching Dan drill his 30BR, I'm pretty convinced that anyone can do it without cracking the tank! :lmao: JK Broseph!

Seriously though. Get yourself a Glass~Holes kit, a corded drill and a spray bottle. Having a level on the drill and going in straight will reduce the chances of chipping/cracking. Pour yourself an ice cold brew, eat the supplied candy and go to town!

I have a couple different sizes, let me know what you need and I'll check to see what I have. I think I have one around 60mm, and one around 45mm.

It's very easy to do, especially on thicker glass.

I just installed a glass holes 1500 gph kit a few weeks ago. the hardest part about drilling glass is getting the first groove started cleanly, but the glass holes kits come with templates now so you don't need to worry about that. it's very, very easy.

I practiced on a cheap aga 10 gallon first. I had no problems drilling a huge hole even with the thin glass.

The first tank i've ever drilled was my 30 breeder. I held the drill crooked... and the hole was still clean.

PPL make drilling out to be harder than it really is. (all it is , is like drilling wood... only it takes a lot more time... patients is key).

This thread is finally getting me pumped up enough to drill the tank I've had sitting around for months now. I've got a couple of ten gallons I can practice on as well. I've had the tank and the overflow for months just sitting around. Time to do this!

I've got drill bits for 1" bulkheads and 2" bulkheads at school. You're welcome to borrow them, or if you'd like, we can drill the tank at school.

What size tank and what are you drilling for?

Oh... this could be a very good demo... (as long as you dont shatter my tank!).
I am close enough that I could easily bring in the tank... It is Brandon's 60G tank that I picked up in Syracuse a while back.... It has the thick glass on it.
What do you think?

If Dan or Scott doesn't have the size bits you need just let me know. I've got all of them from 1/2" - 2" bulkheads, plus some smaller ones for float switches and the like. You shouldn't have to worry about drilling Brandon's, it's a tank, errr beefy I mean.
