i just bought several corals from a friend and I got a great deal on a huge toadstool (8" in diameter), anyhow I cannot seem to get him placed where he doesn't fall over. I was told to wedge him between rocks, use rubberbands or even pin him, what should I do- jabbing a hole in him doesn't seem nice, he is presently just laying on the floor of my tank until I find a better solution. thanks in advance for any insight. tommy

How's your water quality? My sarcophyton tends to droop when the nitrates start to get high.
salinity: 1.022
Am: 0
Nitrates and nitrites:0
Calcium 425ppm ( and have never added any?)
Alk: cannot remember- but the lfs said its on target
Phosphate: trace- barely measureable
ph 8.2
i am anal about my parameters- daily recording logged into a spreadsheet, then run through spss to checks stats over time
And, it has only been in the tank for a couple of days- the stalk appears larger in diameter than from when I got it- and the person I got it from only had it a couple of days- he inherited the inhabitants of a tank from a women who sold her house- he set up his 180g and realized the electrical service in his apartment ( old collge apartmetn wouldn't handle the mhs, so he sold me a large piece of rock with three btas and cabbage coral plus the toadstool for $50. tommy

Using rubberbands to attatch coral usually works well but it sometimes causes infection. A less traumatic method is to cut a short piece of PVC pipe to form a ring to hold the base of the coral in place until it attatches to a rock. I too had a dropping toadstool and recieved this advice from a friend who worked at a salt water store. The method worked great and my toadstool is happy now.
