Dropped Kessil into Tank

My advice to folks is to always put a piece of plywood over the tank when moving lights around. That way if you drop the light or any fasteners they don't get into the tank. Unfortunately I don't always follow my own advice :thumbdown

Was remounting a Kessil 360 yesterday when ...... oops ....... plop. Aw &@$#%*. Fortunately the thing was unplugged, so I opened it up, gave it a FW rinse and dried it out with a fan overnight. Didn't realize that these lights are mostly waterproofed inside. Light works fine this morning. Quite impressed.

Wow a close on. I put my dry side and wet side in a bucket of vinegar oops, I did the same as you no problems.

That would have suck if you ruined the light.

Ow! it does happen with electronics, so long as it wasn't shorted out: the old put your soaked phone in a bag of dry rice trick. So glad it's working! I'm about to go do battle with my own LED schedule.

You are so lucky!!!! 🍀

Agreed. I had the same experience with one. After it fell in, I took it apart and realized that the PCBs are coated to protect them from such events I guess. My Neptune DOS on the other hand, not so. I ended up frying the PCB as well as both steppers.

I think the internal waterproofing is mainly to protect against 'normal' use, not dumb a$$ moves like mine. The key in my case was the 'not connected' part.

Makes a big difference if the light is turned on. I, unfortunately, did the same thing with the power on, and poof*, instant short out and ruined light. Much cursing and self-loathing followed.

Yeah i had dropped a radion in tank one time you can imagine how ****ed i was, it shorted out too of course

Reminds me of the time I was using my iPhone light to look for pests at night and dropped it right into the tank. It landed on a strawberry shortcake colony knocking it off the rock and into three pieces. Slowly STNed to death. That drop cost me well over $1000 :(
