DSB for in sump refugium?

My tank is 46g with a 20g long sump, the refugium compartment is 12"Lx12"Wx8"H (about 5g).
Tank has just finished cycling and has a half inch sand bed (live sand) and about 55lbs LR.
No livestock yet.
My sump turnover is about 5x (mag 5 minus head). Three compartments in it (skimmer/bubble trap, refugium, return in that order)
Only 2 t5 actinic on it right now. 250w mh is in the mail.
Plan is 4 or 5 small fish eventually and mixed corals.
What i believe is Diatom is starting to cover the rocks and sand.(plan on getting snails and maybe some crabs tomorrow).
The refugium section of the sump is bare right now and my question is should I run a DSB in it? It is only 8" deep so a DSB would take up most the room. Is a DSB necessary to keep my Nitrate levels down or will weekly water changes be enough?
Thanks for the help

^^^ +1, footprint too small for a DSB (IMO) and the space too short for anything else on top of it. Chaeto might be a good pick. Liverock is always a good pick.
