Yes there is!

If you can get hold of PRODIBIO BIODIGEST, then this does the same thing, if not slightly better, however is more expensive.

It is a specially formulated bacteria in a VIAL that you break and administer to your tank, (GERMAN PRODUCT I THINK). The bacteria is designed to boost populations and assist to compete with nuisance algaes etc.

I use this also. Very good product.

Or you could just use SUGAR water. We're looking for a carbon source (thats why people use vodka, complex carbohydrates). Sugar water is safer, easier to obtain, and cheaper.

Not that any of them are needed.

" 6x250wDEs on a 90 GALLON" --Holy cow!!! I am only running 2 400w MH's with LAIII reflectors and I have so much dang light I have had to move some corals lower in the tank--and that's even with the lights raised about 12" above the water .

JMO, but if anyone needs 6 mh's--then they either have a gigantic tank or extremely crappy reflectors! :)
I can't imagine the electric bill :) :)

Meanwhile back to the crabs.........................

I'm moving to a crab free LPS tank, with the possible exception of scarlet hermits, they seem preety good. Although they do like to wear an occasional large cerith shell. :D

I have about 2 dozen large ceriths, 2 dozen nassarius and 50 or so astreas as well as an ever increasing strombus population. I'm nicknaming them reef rabbit snails! This is in a 75 gallon tank.

blange3--I think I like the idea of staying mostly with snails. In my past tanks I had a mixture of everything and it seemed like the snails were always getting killed off--i suspect blue-leg hermits, but am not sure.

I also think the snails seem to do a better job with algae than crabs. JMO though.

I didn't end up having time last night, but I'll try to post some pics of the tank tonight to give you all a better idea of my tank setup.

Snails/Crabs all depends on tank philosophy.

If you're of the "control, nutrients by controlling input" school, go all snails, because your hermits will constantly be starving, and will eat your snails.

If you're of the "control nutrients by having tons of flow and an absurdly large skimmer," and feed absurd amounts of food.(like me) then you wont have any problems with hermits, as they'll never be starving.
