Dsb

I have a 5" remote dsb in my refugium. I could never get my nitrates below 30 until I installed it. It took about a month and a half to take them down to 0.

Ive read somewhere, Icant remmber there are three stages of biological system the first 2 are acheived through the nitrogen cycle., and the other is through dsb and deep within te live rock. It was a fish store post in the northeast post i read but dsb or large piecees of live rock are detremental to the last stage of the biological maturification . thats why older tanks do so much better.I dont know all the tech reasons or lingo but i hope someone reads this and can explain it better. sorry about the typos. for all its worth. brian

robot2222 Aerobic bacteria that forms on the surfaces of the rock, sand, glass ect are the bacteria that turn ammonia to nitrite, and nitrite into nitrate. Only anaerobic bacteria found in deeper parts of LR and the lower levels of a DSB turn the nitrate into nitrogen gas.
