DSLR lens choices

I have 2 sigma lenses (carried over from my 35mm) that have a macro switch on them. One is a 28-80 I believe, the other is a 70-300. Question is, is it worth it to get a prime macro lens? Or will I not notice a difference? Also, when taking pics in my tank with my ighting, the greens don't pop in the photos like they do in my tank. I've adjusted the WB all over the place and if I get the green right the other colors wash out. (like the pink tips on my frogspawn) Any tips?

The switch lets you focus a little closer than you could without it but...I think it's a joke.

WELL worth it. Your lenses are NOT macro lenses. A macro lens gives a 1:1 image. The Sigma 70-300 is something like 1:2. I do not consider this "macro", and the image quality (a critical macro lens attribute) isn't much to write home about.

There are so many variables, pinpointing one (especially without an example) is a futile effort at best. I would guess your lenses are to blame though. Even if you can't notice it, every lens will produce different colors. This is one of the many, many, many reasons superior lenses distance themselves as the best from the rest.

Now I don't even know what brand your camera is, but if you shoot Canon the 100mm f/2.8 Macro is the one to get.

Thank you for the reply! Yes I shoot canon. I have the XSI. I know it's only "entry level" but it's what I could afford. I'll look for that lens and see what deals I can find.
