Maybe I am wrong - but I believe the reason for the bubbles is the kind of outlet of the BK. (Sorry for my bad english - hope you understand what I try to explain).

The plumbing should not be right-angled - if your return-water would go more gently to the sump, you will not have so much bubbles.

My previous tank, I used it for almost four years.
And everything is still okay.
So I don't find any reason to change it.

hopefully any others will acclimate better if there is already some like species established...

Very sad to say that none of them do survive.
I will let my tank more mature for a while before introducing them again.
