Your tank still looking beautifull. Have you considered using plasma lighting. Tunze South Africa testing some plasma on there show tank and those plasmas quite powerfull.

You´ve an amazing tank but IMO it will looks better without so many LPS in the sand, more natural, but I imagine that you loves them as the number is increasing....

Concerning the majanos, the Acreichthys tomentosus is 100% reef safe and 2-3 will ends with your plague.

The time I saw a group of small Wrought irons at Blue Harbour. They were very nice. Sadly they are not reef-safe.

truly amazing what you achieved!

I haven't thought, that blue LED differs so much from the blue VHO.
Personally I use a combination of different MH, blue and coldwhite T5s.
I recently replaced some few of the coldwhite T5s with pink bulbs from Giesemann to see some different colors (which worked to my satisfaction).
After having seen your pictures, I think about adding/replacing some blue T5s with blue LEDs. Hmmmm... Do you think that would add even more/different fluorescent effects? Do you consider it worth trying?

Do you have a plan on how to react to your amazing growth of your coral?
Do you plan to cut back the colonies, or will you remove some of them totally, letting the others grow bigger and bigger?

Our experience with tomentosus is that they are absolutely fantastic with controlling unwanted anemones, but would disagree to call them 100% reef safe! We keep them in our reef not only for the pest control, but they are unusual and enjoyable to watch. But there are some species of LPS that the filefish will eat with enjoyment. We just have to keep them well-fed and choose the zooanthids and blastos carefully. The good news is that the filefish are easy to catch at night after they go to sleep, so if you add one and it starts to eat too many of your wonderful LPS, you can pull the filefish out rather than your corals.

One of the most interesting things about your system is that it does not have a traditional overflow or surface skimming. It is accepted in the reefing community that surface skimming is absolutely essential, and appears in virtually every tank. Yet here we have arguably the most beautiful reef tank in existence which ignores this.

My 300 gallon has a massive overflow that really limits my aquascaping options, and I'd rather replace it with the "Thai Method" of plumbing which we have seen in this tank, and your previous one under the care of Last Version. It takes up very little space, and is very clean looking in my opinion. I hope you don't mind some questions, so I can help implement this on my system.

1 - How much flow is required in tank turn over per hour? I assume that without skimming the surface, the water really has to be pushed around heavily to avoid dirty water forming at the surface.

2 - Do you point powerheads toward the surface to break it up?

3 - Why did you decide to plumb your tanks like this? Had you seen other tanks doing this?

4 - Why aren't we seeing many tanks plumbed like this?

thanks for your advice, I will replace some of the blue VHO with blue LED in the next weeks. If I don't like the look (don't think so), there are enough breeding/quarantine tanks that'd look nicer with more blue light.

Regarding your coral growth, we'll talk again when they'll fasten at the frontwindow of your tank ;-).
In my tank, the fast growers like the green slimer acro etc. tend to overgrow the slow ones, so I decided to cut some of them back heavily and remove others totally to have fewer, larger colonies.

Hi Tyler,

1. I have 4 Tunze wavebox and 8 Tunze 6305. So it is quite a massive flow in the tank.
2. I point only two of Tunze 6305 toward the surface.
3. The reason is I want to make the tank look simple. Can't remember where I saw other tank doing this.
4. Well, each person has their own personal taste. Hard to say.

chingchai, in the subject of your overflow as mentioned above, how is it designed?

To me it just looks like there are strainers just below the water lever, and the water drains through them, down a 90 deg. fitting and then drains down to the floor, then back up to the sump, located to the right of your tank, correct?
