DT- 40 days hypo failure

Hello all, I just wanted to share me recent experience with hypo and my DT,

setup / fish

56x34x24 and large closet sump -- come out to 248g of water.
large black tang, chevron tang, yellow tail tamarin wrasse, red tail tamarin wrasse , leopard wrasse, pair of earmuff wrasses, and a small blue face angel.

with all the said fish above i was scared to pull them TT or Cu and then fallow my DT, so i decided to try hypo on my DT.

I turned my zeo reactor into a carbon one, and added poly filters and got a GIANT bottle of prime and amquel also a giant box of baking soda. took me 9 days decrease the SG from 1.025 to 1.009. (small rodi and thats as fast as i could make it and do a water change) had lots of die off algea bact. etc however had no issues with AMM or nutrients. I was prepared for this so i used one of my dosers for the prime. The tank was kept at or <1.008 for 41 days (for 4 days we had the tank at 1.006 bc the top off got turned on manually)............... I started to raise the tank last wed and now am up to 1.013 and BAM, black tang has 2 trophonts on his noise.

Pretty sssure he does at least
thoughts? moving foward?
Would like the discussion to this process ( no need to :deadhorse: about fallow and separate treatment )

Sorry, I can't be much help; I simply don't trust hypo and haven't for years. Not only is hypo very demanding and subject to many user errors; but I think there are strains of ich that are becoming immune to the lower SG of hypo. I can't see any reason you shouldn't have used TT or chloquinine phosphate. I would have used CP or Cupramine copper at the lowest dosage. (35ppm)

Why all the Prime & Amquel, they are basically the same thing? Why all the carbon? A mature tank should not lo0se its bio-filter at the SG used in hypo.

Just had it in on hand to combat any amm issues, did do t t bc we don't have the space to do it on all the fish- I started this tank as a rookie and didn't do any prevention -

Thanks for the info

These cannot he done in DT that will have coral in it bc cu will leach into rocks correct?

Sorry to hear about the hypo issues. Sucks that fish are so prone to infection during the shipping process.

Because ich is easy to cure in new fish when in a QT; it doesn't suck nearly as bad. The shipping process doesn't give the fish ich. The entire idea of life in a confined environment makes more serious ich episodes more likely. Again, QT.
