I has a printed shelf life of about 6 months. I just finished off a bottle which was a little older than the expiration date, but it smelled ok so I went ahead and used it. It didn't seem to cause any problems.

Since some of the phytoplankton products are dead already, I wouldn't think using dead DT's would be harmful unless it is spoiled. I guess you'd have to have a microscope to confirm if it is truly alive or not.
