Does aquarium saltwater damage kitchen sinks or garbage disposals? There is no sand in the water just plain old saltwater.

Directions for cleaning a garbage disposals are to use Ice, Salt, and Water.

Thanks for the help

Cheers

I put it down the toliet but I have put it down the kitchem sink with no issues. Just make sure you rinse with freshwater after.

Humm, not a dumb question at all. Im sure many on here have to deal with this in close quarters like apartments, etc....

Ide say if you have PVC plumbing it should be ok. Garbage disposal ide be concerned about. I know they recommend Ice, but never heard them suggest salt.

The only issue with using the kitchen sink is possible pathogens and bacteria. Use the toilet ot bathroom sink

It will rust the disposal even if you run fresh water into it. My disposal died 2 times before i figured out what happened! Lol. I never throw it in there again. Some older homes have steel pipes as sewage and the water will destroy those too. My bro in law had to cut up his floor to replace all the pipes in his home. Cost him a bundle!

I poor it down bathtub as saltwater will leach out into the ground around pipes through cracks and such and help keep the tree roots away.

I've thrashed my disposal also.

I've always gone with dumping it down the toilet. All porcelain, so no metal to rust from the salt ;)

If your house is older and has cast iron drain lines, it's a real bad idea. It will rust the disposer fast too, and if you have an enameled cast iron sink, it will destroy it quick also.
