dumb question...

Has anyone have problems with clown gobies jumping out of their tank? Ive got a 2'' clearence between the water line and top of the tank.

The only dumb question is the one not asked.

If you keep your tank open top, then you will lose an occasssional fish. Gobies seem to be one of the more frequent jumpers. One thing you can do is to turn the lights off in stages. When i kept an opened top, i lost most fish due to the lights going out suddenly and startleing the fish. After i started turning the lights off in stages, and using a moonlight, i barely ever lost a fish.

I think the chances of a clown goby carpet surfing are slim. He should be fine with the covering that you have.
