It is late and I just got home. I am measuring my Alk now and I took a measurement tonight. I dosed 1 tsp to raise the Alk a little. I wasnt thinking and dissolved the buffer in salt water. It says to do it in fresh water. The buffer really didnt dissolve that well.
I dumped the cup into the overflow so it would cycle through the sump and get returned through my 4 returns. There was a little solution left in the cup so I washed some tank water into the cup and let the solution disperse into the water.
As soon as it did the hairy mushrooms that I have on that side of the tank started to close up and they barfed out their insides. White stringy masses came out of the oral disk.
So, this was obviously a mistake. My questions are 1.) why did they not like it (local pH increase? Something else?) and 2.) what was their reaction to it? The other organisms in the tank had no response.
Thanks,
Josh
