Dumping Coralife Light Timers

At the very least, ditch any coralife with the mechanical timer. I have heard nothing bad about the digital. I love both of mine, they do a great job of maintaining my photo period and powerheads. There are other options out there, but the digital coralife is a good option because of its options and size. HTH

i was wondering...

if i buy the coral life digital, can i have both the timed outlets (day and night) on at the same time, because i would like to do the dawn/dusk effect, but to my understanding you can only have either the day or the night on.

thanks

I used the Coralife Dual Power Center and IMO the thing sucks. The clock mechanism gets caught on one of the dials. I have tried two with the same problem developing on them. So I have replaced the one unit with three made by Intermatic that I got at a Home Depot. The clocks are digital and battery operated so they don't reset on the loss of power. the down side is that they only have two outlets each. I got them for $10/ea and they are working great.

Thanks for the advise all. After reading this and other threads I am getting rid of my Coralife timer. I have the double timer with only my actinics and daylight plugged in. The daylight turns on and off perfectly every day. The actinics never turn off at 9:00pm as setup. I reset the thing time to time and no matter what it turns off at 9:15.

I like my house and getting rid of this $32 fire trap sounds like a great idea.

I posted a thread a few days back asking if anyone had been having this problem with their timers. I just got my tank and all the stuff a few weeks ago and am on timer number two already. Thought maybe it was just me messing it up but did a search online and found several other forums with posters complaining of this problem. Will definitely be taking this back to the store and just asking for store credit, no item replacement please!

So what are the best replacements, the Coralife Digital version? Are there other high tech options. The run-of-mill powerstrips at hardware and department stores are too simple.

It is nice to have a lot of fexibility. With the Coralife single, you can't stagger the turn on of actinic and daylight.

madchad86: the timers only allow you to have one pair of outlets on at a time. Daylights on/Nights off, Nights on/Daylights off. For dusk/dawn, you could just use another coralife digital to control the other set of lights.

snakebyt: lol, that looks identical to the coralife digital. Same manufacturer perhaps?

Tobman: the coralife digitals are the way to go if you want something fairly compact and that can do multiple timing events. Although the timer listed by Areze looks pretty good too.
