Duncan Fraging Question

hey guys i was wondering how to go about fragging a stalk off my duncan. I would think that i can just take a dremel to it and cut the stalk off, but i was wondering if it would hurt the colonie if i cut threw the green flesh that goes down the stalk. also when glueing it to a plug, how long should i wait to glue and should i peal away the green flesh at the base of the stalk?

FAMA magazine of April had a big article on care and propagation of the Wisker coral.

Once the skin has grown over the cut, you cant glue it down. So, I would glue as soon as you cut it.

As far as cutting goes, you want to go for the cleanest cut possible. Mine was fragged using a pair of bone cutters.
The magazine suggested to start with a dremel, and then pry off using a chisel of big screw driver. That seems reasonable to me.

Just be sure not to put too much pressure on the skeleton while fragging, the last thing you want to do crush the skeleton.

I would cut all the way with a dremel, or this is the saw I use to frag everything. They are awesome, you can cut out individual polyps of an acan...even a micro!!! And they are relatively cheap for what they do (find them on ebay).

Oh yeah and I highly recommend that you DO NOT manually remove ANY of the tissue. If the glue comes in contact with the tissue towards the bottom, generally the tissue can "slime" it off. Also, generally right after fragging a duncan, the tissue tends to shrink up towards the head of the coral. GL!!!

mine was cut with a good set of heavy clippers. The end was a LITTLE jagged, but not much. My 1 head is now 4-6 heads

How long did it take to grow to that size?
Did you glue the frag onto rock?

Mine sits in the bottom of my tank, resting against a rock, not glued at all.

Hmm...I don't know about that. First time I fragged my duncan, I crushed two heads with the cutters I was using, and mutilated a 3rd. The mutilated head recovered fully and you'd never know it was damaged before (mouth was not damaged). I fragged the duncan for the second time last night, and used a diamond wheel cutter on a dremel, and it was soooooooooo much easier to frag it, and a nice clean cut. I glued the frag to a plug, and it started opening within an hour.
