Hi all, anyone have a duncan n just stopped opening but still looks the same color n branches doesnt seem to be bleaching n other sps n lps are opening up fine. Maxspect razor are on dusk to dawn for 10hrs. I dont test other parameters no test kit. I went from a black box n 1 ai hydra 52 to the 48inch 320watt maxspect razor. I been acclimating it for 1.5months now increasing about 2 to 4 percent every 4 to 5 days, n max out at 50% as of this week. It was open before the light upgrade. I have no algea issues so im assumming my phosphate is ok. Do you think i need to increase the light more, i didnt want it to start bleaching the other corals since these are pretty powerful lights. I move it from mid level to about 5inches from the sandbed just to see if it will help. Picture below. Any info would be appreciated, thanks

Tank:
110g, 48x18x30

Sg= 1.024/1.025
Temp=78/80
Lights = 48inch, 320watt maxspect razor,

What fish do you have? I had one do that and I finally caught my powder blue tang nipping at it. After removing him the Duncan came out again. He would try to come out from time to time then the tang would nip it.

Was a 125g tank, which is minimum for a powder blue, but I think it was still too small.

I have flame, coral bueaty angel, yellow tang, foxface, n domino, yellow tail, three stripe damsels, six line wrasse, pair mocha clown, pair mandarin goby, coral banded shrimp n a shrimp goby. Only thing new was the maxspect razor n sixline wrasse. Would the sixline wrasse mess with corals?

I have the same issue but only 4 heads of my 20 head Duncan are retracted. I now suspect its a cleaner shrimp of yellow tang I added recently. Need to catch it in the act though. All my params are spot on and like your tank my other lps are doing very well.

Just keep a close eye on what is going on. If a fish is nipping you will catch it sooner or later. My powder blue didn't develop the taste right away. I was about 6 months later that he started doing it. Once he started nothing would deter him. He also was nibbling on some softies and a green slimmer frag.

I been trying to watch n see if any of the fish are nipping at it, havent seen it. The duncan been in there for amost a two years now. I don't see a decline in color, it just hasnt open in about 1.5 months.

What it use to look like.

Mine just does that periodically. Even when fish-less. Comes back just as good or better than before. Usually retracts for one a couple of days when it does it.

Check your calcium and alkalinity.
Duncans are temperamental to alk swings.
Just because your other corals look ok, that means nothing with regards to the Duncan.

Ok guys it was a little over two months n came back from tge phillipines n the duncan still havent open so i decided to move it to my 29g biocube n within a few hours it started to open up. Thanks for the advice guys, not sure whats wrong with my 110g, but something is definately off. I dont have test kit, maybe I can take it to my lfs to have them test for me.

Looking a little better in the biocube after more thrn two months not opening in the 110g DT.
