Duncan's... what's the big deal?

Hi Amoore311. Do you have an accurate picture of your green with purple tentacles? I haven't seen any duncans other than the greens. Sounds pretty. I have a green one, but it's a beautiful shade of green. (picture in earlier reply in this thread). Some greens I've seen are dull.

I pay 25/head for the Aussies. They have a green oral disk and purple tentacles.

I agree there are some that aren't worth the price. The standard duller green ones are pretty bland imo.

The ORA and purple aussies are really wild looking corals though. I wouldn't pay more than $25/head though.

I think location is important as well LOL, I'm an Aussie and they sell as low as 25 cents a head around here, their actually rarely in stores because the owners find it difficult to move em on. I've got a nice one with 30-40 heads and tonnes of babies I picked up for $30.

Sheesh! I hate it when guys rub it in. lol!

25 cents a head

I really need to move lol. How much are Scolys $15?

Unfortunately I don't, but the picture ct_vol posted is pretty close to what I have. Mine have flourescent green mouths and a pastel purple/lavender colored tentacles.

I think they have awesome coloration and if you like the more flowing corals. I too agree that i the price is too high for how quick everyone says they grow. I would like to get both kinds one for each side of the tank. Duncan : Elegance : Duncan. These on the bottom of the tank and Frogspawn, Hammer, Torch up in the middle.

In addition, they're hardy, and show a strong feeding response (I like corals that are interactive and like to eat). They're also a coral that does well in lower light tanks, so they make a great choice for lower tech tanks.

I can definitely understand that point of view. There are some corals like that that are attractive because of their behavior versus color.

They are a beautiful coral for sure...

You need to own one before you say how dull they are trust me! :D

I've seen the ORA ones in many tanks/lfs in person. I'm pretty convinced they're dull :)

Ah ha! That's the problem.. :)

ORA ones are nice and I like them but their skirts tend to be rather short while the aussie ones like I have are very long and the oral disk are large! :) Like this:

I bought a single head about 4 months ago for $25 (the going rate at my LFS) and I now have 4 full heads and 3-5 smaller ones growing. It's one of my favorite corals in my tank and it's very easy to care for. They're not the most colorful coral out there, but they're cool as hell IMO.

Here is a shot of mine.

My Aussie Duncan's heads are really big too....about 1-2" in diameter. The heads are much larger than the original frag. Must be happy in my tank. :) Nice long flowing tenticles. I've successfully fragged it twice and traded for other corals. :)

i wish mine would fully open up. the color is also alot different since i bought it. kind of dull looking and not as pretty. i paid $25 for 2 big heads with 2-3 baby heads. they are way too over priced and i was lucky to get mine that cheap.

I dont think the skirts have anything to do with the perticular speciman but the conditions in the aquarium E.G. water flow
