65g Ritteri Tank
I recently had a malu die on me...bad shipping. So the middle of my tank is now baren with no anemone and my clowns look so lonely without one. Note that my clowns and anemone are a centerpiece in my tank, with SPS and some clams.

1) I need a sand dweller
2) something that will keep the black in my onyx..no LTA or BTA

I had a crispa that did very well, but turned it in because I found a malu I liked. So now I'm considering all options. I want something more colorful than a crispa, so Im looking at either sticking with and finding another malu or get a carpet.

65g with 2x250w radiums with actinic lighting. I'm completely aware that carpets can quickly grow large. If I go the carpet route..I would have to arrange the rocks in a configuration that would allocate enough space for growth and still have the tank functional for everything else.

Everythign I read say that Malu's stay smaller. My concern with this is that my pair would be too big for the small anemone. Although, if they do stay a smaller size, I dont' have to allocate more space than usual.

If neither will work...I can always get a crispa again. But I'm more passive on this idea.

Messed up the poll...please respond with Haddoni or Gig if carpet

I personally like things waving around in the tank, so gigs would be my choice over haddoni, but I have to say that so far, they are WAAAAY tougher to keep than my BTAs!

I've seen some pretty colorful crispas on liveaquaria. Might be a bit more pricey but they come with a refund policy and, IMO, a healthy crispa is a bulletproof nem.

I thought only malu's are purple. I do agree that I enjoy wavy anemones a lot more. I like watching the clownfish dive and play around in tentacles. Cost isnt really a big thing, granite im not buying a $600 red carpet...but I'd definitly consider a blue carpet

H. Crispa's, M doreensis, and S. Haddoni can also be found in a purple color morph (( and I think Gigs, but I haven't seen any )). M. doreensis, in a purple color morph are more common then the others.

If you " I like watching the clownfish dive and play around in tentacles " a Haddoni might not be the best choice, since they have fairly short tentacles.

can anemone crabs and clownfish share the same anemone? This could influence me on a carpet

Yes, no, and maybe. :)

It is going to depend on the individual clowns and crab. I have heard stories of it working fine, and in other cases it not working.

I have one in my 58, it is hosted by my green Haddoni, my pink skunk pair is hosted by my blue one -- so they don't interact. However, when I first put the crab in my tank it went to the blue Haddoni for a couple of days -- it ended up back in the green one. Not sure if it liked the green one better, or because the clowns forced it out. I didn't see any damage to either the crab or the clowns.

I take it a 4' tank. Would you see a problem with a carpet in a 3' tank like mine?'

whats the growth like on your anemones? The last crispa I had grew to 3-4x as big in 8 months.

No, a 58 (( the tank in question )) is 36" inches long. So, I wouldn't see an issue with you keeping one.

Growth can be very fast, if fed a lot. But, limited feedings will slow down their growth.

I dont feed anemones...I let them just grab food from when I feed the fish...Occasionally they would nab a big piece when I feed Rods

yea...its SPS/clam. I have some zoa's..but those were left over from years ago. Only thing I might have to get rid of is the Squamosa I have..while not large, takes up some valuable sand bed real estate. Maxima's are quite smaller and tend not to move around as much.

It isn't just roses but it seems it can happen with any E. quadricolor. I know my PNG percs lost a major portion of their black when moved from a single purple H. malu to a tank with 50 BTA's of green and rose. It took about six months for the black to fade. I moved them back to the tank with the malu and the coloring came back just as slow as it went away. Light was the same in both tanks and the tanks were sharing a sump so the water parameters were the same.
